Pranksters

Damn, I hope you're kidding about doing that to your roomies stuff.  But in a sick way I kinda do hope you did it.  Ugh.  Do you intend to "point and laugh" after he's been using the stuff?

Thanks,

-Tom

Dear Tom,

I'm going to wait until after he's used all the stuff for a few weeks longer before I let him in on the secret. To be honest, I'm not sure if I ever want to let him know because I wouldn't want him to do the same thing right back to me...

Patience

No update since last Monday? Are you still alive or you just won the lotto this week-end and you went away??

=)

Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,

Life just isn't that interesting. I haven't updated because work just got really busy all of a sudden and sadly, this page isn't the work I'm getting paid to do. The good news is that NFL 2K3 is coming along quite nicely and I'm starting to feel more and more at home at the new place.

NBA 2K2

Now that you are gone from IGN and you left before you got to review NBA 2K2. Tell me, What do you think about that game. Are you saying what I'm saying, Is that game that damn good.

I, sadly, have yet to spend any real time with NBA 2K2. So I cannot share any opinions with you because I don't have any. One of the downsides to working on the development side is that I don't get as many free games as I used to -- including games from VC... I'm also too broke to buy anything right now.

Madden or 2K?

The infamous Dave Z. I was wondering this. What type of gameplay do you prefer, Madden of 2K series? I'm a fan of the 2K series myself. BTW, if it all possible tweak the create-a-player and franchise mode and it will be perfect.

-Adam

P.S. I too have won a state championship in football. The 01-02 Washington State 2A State Champ.... The Elma Eagles. 13-1 all season and playoffs. It was a great feeling.

Dear Adam,

I've been a long-time fan of the Madden series and will probably continue to be even though I'm working at VC. For me, the gameplay has been a toss-up in recent years, but Madden has been my first choice because of the replay value offered by its deep franchise mode.

Things should be a bit different this year, though. I'm a bit biased, though.

Congrats on the State Championship, you should be proud.

This is no IGN

Cool site man, you've done a surprisingly good job.  Doesn't seem as comprehensive as IGN, but then again you don't have a staff nor millions of dollars worth of stock now do you?  I'm sure there's a way you could profit off of this site- maybe you could create a Dave "Insider" subscription and rake in the big bucks.  It would be full of information and pictures of Dave inside and out, and from all angles.  Like one of those 3D cams that have a still image that you can completely rotate around... gives me goose bumbs just thinking about the possibilities.  And shit, all I'd have to do is cancel my Play Girl subscription and use that money for Dave Insider.  Dave in naked 3D glory?  That would be my dream come true!

I'll go ahead and say this right now -- this site will NEVER be as good as IGN. It's also not something that I'm striving for either. All this page will ever be is a place to share my work with those that are interested in it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway, I doubt I could do the cam thing because it would be too much bandwidth for my server, but nude photos is a definite possibility.

Britney really nude?

I heard about your page through IGN, and I loved your reviews there.  Seems now they are going into the crapper.  Anyways is that pic of Britney Spears real or a fake?  I didn't believe my eyes when I saw it.

That picture of Britney is completely real. However, I don't know if it's really Britney or not. It might just be some girl that looks a lot like her. But it's not a doctored or faked picture.

EA Sports on Xbox

What up, Bukkakka boy?  I bought myself an Xbox last week.  Yay.  Actually the system itself is amazing.  I so dig the hard drive...I now get pissed when I have to manage files on my PS2 mem cards.  I bought NHL Hitz, Silent Hill 2, HALO, NHL, and on your recommendation traded in my PS2 Madden for the Box one.  Good call on your part.  Here's my question...

Why is the gameplay itself so much refined on the EA games for the Box over the PS2?  I'm not talking about the graphic enhancements, but in Madden I've noticed the following: Fewer dropped passes (much fewer), better blocking, more realistic momentum, and your WR will actually work to put himself between the ball and the defender after your QB throws his way.  In NHL I've noticed better puck physics and your guys actually work harder in front of the net.  You can see them trying to deflect shots in.  I have the sliders set the same as I did on the PS2 versions.  Is it because of more development time that EA made these improvements?  I'm curious to know.

EA just had more time to refine and test the gameplay. The Xbox games came out well after the PS2 versions, so they had several months to tweak the gameplay. If you compare the Xbox and PS2 versions of NFL 2K2, you'll find the same things true.

Insider message boards

Can IGN survive with the requirement of Insider to go to the message boards. I think they have the right to do that, but won't moves like that severely limit their traffic? Can they survive on Insider alone? I think you may have got out just in time. You had different and better reasons of course. Maybe I'm missing something.

The thing about the message boards is that it makes IGN NO MONEY and costs IGN a LOT of money because they get absolutely zero ad revenue from it and the bandwidth costs for running a popular board is extremely high. So, if making all of the boards Insider-only resulted in an 100% drop in board users -- it would save IGN money because they would stop losing money with it.

Why have a message board in the first place? Well, it helps create a community and that's one of the things that IGN has always been about -- it's just not financially smart to keep doing it given the size of IGN's user base.

Cold day in Hell

Looks like a cold day in hell. "The mosquito game is currently schedule for a late 2001 release in Japan. And it'll likely be a cold day in hell before Sony Computer Entertainment America decides to bring it out for the American market. -- Dave Zdyrko"

Yeah, I figured I should make sure the temp was lowered down there before I got my room.
