I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a new TV stand for the Sony 42″ LCD HDTV this past weekend. The walls suck in my apartment so hanging it has never been an option, so it’s been sitting on my old stand that was built for up to a 27″ TV. I went with the NT-C1140 from Init that supports TV’s up to 50″ and 300 lbs.
The unit’s sturdy as hell, looks nice and sleek and the fact that it’s shorter than my other stand helps make the HDTV look even bigger while also fixing some of my problems with the Wii’s sensitivity. I’m extremely happy with the $180 purchase from Best Buy (down from $250 when I was first planning to get it right before Christmas) and would recommend the stand to anyone with a similarly sized TV.

My Sony STR-DE835 Surround Receiver, which I bought nearly 10 years ago and is located on the bottom left of the stand, is the next thing that’s getting replaced. It’s on its last legs and is about to die, so I’m upgrading it to an Onkyo TX-SR605S 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver that’s scheduled to be delivered on February 4th.
The TX-SR605S has two HDMI inputs, three component inputs and four optical inputs, so I will be able to hook up the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 (not yet there), Comcast cable box, DirectTV DVR and DVD Player all up to it without having to use the ghetto RCA A/V switcher that is currently being used for component inputs. I also plan on getting new speakers that are more space conscious, but that’ll be further down the road.
